The Arctic Region
Here is another excellent website to learn about the Arctic Region!!!
This region is located in the farthest northerly part of Canada. Due to the latitude of the region the Arctic is an extremely unique place. It is mostly made up of islands, mountains, plains, glaciers, and sea ice. Arctic fox and muskox are a few of the animal life that can only survive in this area. Being so far north the region has a unique growing season and much of the land is barren. Farther south the Arctic tundra is treeless and covered with snow. Some soil thaws in the summer but the majority remains frozen which is called permafrost.
ClimateDo to being so far north the region is unable to be farmed. This means that food must be flown in or shipped. This can cause food to be very expensive. Some areas have built greenhouses which are insulated to trap heat in and keep permafrost out. This part of the region can have days of 24 hrs of sunlight or darkness for a few months due to the tilt of the earth and its rotation around the sun.

Bodies of WaterOne of the only ways to travel in this region is by water in the summer. Even though people buy food at the store they also hunt like us. Instead of hunting deer they hunt whale, seals, or caribou.
Natural ResourcesThis region is rich with silver, lead, zinc, and diamonds, oil, and natural gas. Collecting and transporting these resources has caused many challenges for the region. This includes affecting migration paths of beluga whales and destroying habitat where caribou live.
